The rapid transformation of the ethnic, social, cultural, and economic landscapes all over the United States due to the growing presence of immigrants and refugees from all over the world, demands the formation of professionals with wide cultural perspective and skills. The Midwest and Omaha are not escaping from this global tendency.
Founded in 2005, thanks to a grant from Alegent Health's Community Benefit Trust, the Center for Transcultural Learning (CTL) is the professional development branch of College of Saint Mary, dedicated to providing courses and services to help both native-born Americans and international professionals and immigrants in the process of cultural, economic, and professional integration.
Since its foundation, more than 350 students have been enrolled in different courses offered by the CTL. Since 2008, the CTL has offered training in Spanish language to American students, English as a Second Language to Saudi Arabian, Vietnamese, Nepalese, Thai, and Indonesian students, and interpreting training to American, Sudanese, Thai, Togolese, Somali, and Latin American students.
The CTL is currently developing a training program in Cultural Competence aimed at leaders, supervisors, and staff of companies and other organizations that serve a culturally diverse population. All our classes are designed and scheduled for the convenience of those people who would like to expand their professional skills in the current multicultural environment.
