English Language Acquisition


The Center for Transcultural Learning at College of Saint Mary offers an English Language Acquisition program not only for students who want to develop skills in English in order to attend an educational institution in the United States, but also for trained/skilled professionals who need to improve their English for employment purposes, with emphasis in the workplace and educational settings.

Integrated Approach
The English Language Acquisition program offers an integrated, multi-disciplined approach to teaching and learning. The focus is on language acquisition. The curriculum materials reflect the liberal arts as well as broad cultural perspectives. Students are continually assessed to determine their learning gains and mastery of course materials.

Benefits of the Program
The English Language Acquisition program consists of four days of class instruction each week. This includes four hours of face to face interaction and one hour of language lab. Students benefit from computer aided instruction highlighting academic and vocational research. Microsoft Office ® applications are incorporated into the coursework. Language lab time offers further opportunity to develop individual language skills using Rosetta Stone ®.
