Teaches American Literature, Women's Spiritual Journeys, American Memoir (online), Women and Film, The Detective Novel and Society, and Composition. Her principle research areas are women's spirituality, and American literature. Bauer holds a B.A. from Mills College, an M.A. from San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. Bauer joined the faculty in 1997.
