Ginny Cook grew up as the youngest
of five sisters and brothers in Burlington, Iowa along the Mississippi River.
She graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors' Degree in
Administrative and Therapeutic Recreation.
She began her professional career at the University of Iowa's Psychiatric Hospital, which is
where she did her professional internship.
Working with a variety of populations, she found working in Oncology to
be the most fulfilling.
While putting her husband through
Creighton Law School Ginny worked at what used to be Saint Joseph Center for Mental Health. She was Director of Recreational Therapy and
worked there for six years before starting her family.
Ginny's career emphasis changed
directions once she had two daughters and a husband that worked incredibly long
hours. She then became a "Domestic
Engineer," learning and developing domestic and organizational skills she
said "she'd never do."
Spending the next fourteen years raising her family is what she
considers her "most important as well as challenging job of her
lifetime." When asked if she would
do it again, she responds without missing a beat, "absolutely!"
Moving to Bedford, NY in the late 80's for five years
is described by Ginny as a wonderful life adventure. "Having access to NYC
and the east coast states was a tremendous gift."
Ginny re-entered the
"work-for-pay" world when her children were in Middle and High
School. Her first re-entry job was with Metropolitan Community College as a Community Service
Coordinator in the Continuing Education Department. She spent much of her time developing the
Language classes offered for non-credit.
Ginny then took a job as an Admissions Counselor with a local career college
before coming to College of Saint Mary.
Ginny says her favorite part of
working in Admissions is being a part of someone's life when they are making
their educational decisions that will affect the rest of their lives, and
hopefully the world around them.
Reading,
traveling, baking, gardening and sewing are a few activities Ginny enjoys doing
in her recreational time.
