Our youth swim lesson program follows the guidelines set by the American Red Cross. Our classes feature a low student-to-teacher ratio, allowing greater student involvement. 

All classes will be held on campus in our Lied Fitness Center pool. Please refer to the
LEVEL descriptions below to determine the appropriate class for your child.

At the start of each session, please contact Sister Corrine Connelly at 402-399-2359 or cconnelly@csm.edu for availability or to have a name or group placed on the waiting list.

 

Swim Lesson Level Descriptions:

 

 Level One: Water Exploration  

Students will learn elementary aquatic skills and water safety.  Skills taught include: sub-merged face, supported front and back float, bubble blowing, kicking, and moving through the water with support. (For children with limited or no experience)

 

Level Two: Primary Skills 

This level is the beginning of fundamental skills such as unassisted floating, locomotion, and combined kicking and arm movements.  (For children with limited experience)

 
 

Level Three: Stroke Readiness  

This class provides students with the opportunity to coordinate and refine the arm and leg movements of the front and back crawl.  Students will also begin spending time in deep-water activities. (For those who have just begun or are ready to begin learning strokes) 

 

Level Four: Stroke Development 

Students develop confidence in their strokes as well as endurance.  They will be introduced to the breaststroke and sidestroke.  This class meets in the deep water.

 

Level Five: Stroke Refinement  

The objective of Level V is coordination and stroke refinement.  Students are introduced to the butterfly, open turns and the feet-first surface dive.  Students will swim increasing distances using the strokes they have previously learned. 

 

Level Six: Skill Proficiency 

The objective of this level is to polish students' stroke mechanics.  Students should learn to swim increasing, distances, smoothly with ease and efficiency.   

Level Seven: Advance Skills 
 

The objectives for Level VII include perfecting strokes, developing good fitness habits, and water safety.  This level is ideal for those who would like to enter competitive swimming and/or life guarding, and those who wish to achieve a higher level of fitness.
