Linda
Pelletier and Jan Schiessler began the cross country program at College of
Saint Mary in 2000. Student-athlete Megan
Coulter led the team in its first season with outstanding runs at a number of
meets.
In 2001,
Natalie Flynn and Jill Vacek led the Flames to an excellent season. Flynn became an All-American, finishing 3rd
at the regional and 7th at the NAIA national meet with a time of
18:27.
In 2002,
Scott Stanley took over as coach of the Flames.
Natalie (Flynn) Christensen won the MCAC, the Region IV meet and was 6th
at the national meet on her way to again becoming an All-American with a best
time of 18:30.
Coach
Stanley continued through 2004 with Krystal Williams and Sara Longmeyer placing 1st and 2nd at the
MCAC competition. Williams was also 2nd
at the regional meet and went on to the NAIA nationals.
In 2005,
athletic director Leigh Officer took the reins and led CSM to their only cross
country crown. Krystal Williams went on
to win at the regional tournament and was named an NAIA All-American.
In 2006,
John Mulligan came to CSM and established a stable program that climbed the
conference and regional ladder. Under
Mulligan, the team twice placed 2nd at the MCAC meet and then placed
5th and 6th at the regional meet. The 2007 roster of 10 runners was the largest
in CSM history, to date.
In 2009,
Amy Sauser took over as head coach - leading the team through some great
experiences in her first season - including a 2nd place finish at
the MCAC tournament.
