CSM
soccer burst onto the scene in 1994 - beginning a long history of success. Under the leadership of Coach Dan Harvey, the
Flames won the MCAC regular season and tournament championships each of the
first three years of the program, and traveled to the NAIA national tournament
for the first time in 1996. That year, Kari
Stacy was also named second team All-American.
Coach Max
Leeson took over the program in 1997 and led the
Flames to another sweep of the MCAC. Phil Comstock took over in 1998, won three
more MCAC regular season and tourney titles, and led the Flames to the 2000
Elite Eight at the national tournament and Kristi Korth
was named a first team All-American.
Kim Ernesti, who had been a star goalkeeper on the first Flames'
teams, became the assistant coach in 1998 and continues in that role
today. As CSM continued to dominate the
soccer scene, John Carlson took the reigns from 2001-03 and CSM won two more
MCAC tournament crowns - eventually losing for the first time in the regular
season in 2003.
In 2004,
Julio Machuca led the team to a 12-7-2 record, and in
2005, Tony Hernandez coached CSM to the MCAC championship and to the NAIA
national tournament.
Jim Homan
took over in the 2006 season and has now won three regular season titles. Since the program began, CSM soccer has
continued to dominate regional and MCAC competition.
