March 9, 2010 - Big Inning Key to Baldwin Wallace Victory Over Flames

Baldwin Wallace used a nine run third-inning rally to defeat the College of Saint Mary Flames, 10-2 on Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz.

The Flames out hit Baldwin Wallace 6-5 for the game but three fielding errors and five runners left on base were the Flames undoing.

The Yellow Jackets quickly jumped on the Flames in the bottom of the first as they pushed their first run across as the Baldwin Wallace leadoff hitter, Mallory Kobak, singled off Flames starting pitcher, Chrissy Molacek. Kobak then stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball. Molacek was able to recover to retire the side of Yellow Jacket hitters in succession.

CSM threatened in the top of the second when Megan O'hara reached on a two base error by the Baldwin Wallace right fielder with one out. After a Courtney Barrier strike out, Melissa King singled, advancing O'Hara to third. King then stole second putting two runners in scoring position with two outs for the Flames. CSM was unable to capitalize as Jennifer Synowiecki struck out swinging to end the threat.

The wheels then came off for the Flames as Baldwin Wallace rallied for nine runs on four hits with CSM committing two errors during the third inning. The Flames would respond with two runs on three hits in the top of the fourth but the damage was done.

Molacek was tabbed with the loss in the circle for the Flames, throwing four innings and giving up ten runs (six earned) on five hits. Mackenzie Rohrbacher picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets. Rohrbacher went four complete innings giving up just two runs (both earned) on four hits.

The Flames will return to action, weather permitting, on March 16 with a double header against Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
