March 15, 2010 - Weather Forces Postponement of Morningside Games
The College of
Saint Mary Softball game against Morningside College has been postponed due to
rain. The double-header has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 23 in Sioux
City, Iowa. A full schedule can be found here.
March 9, 2010 - Big Inning Key to
Baldwin Wallace Victory Over Flames
Baldwin Wallace
used a nine run third-inning rally to defeat the College of Saint Mary Flames,
10-2 on Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz.
The
Flames out hit Baldwin Wallace 6-5 for the game but three fielding errors and
five runners left on base were the Flames undoing.
The Yellow
Jackets quickly jumped on the Flames in the bottom of the first as they pushed
their first run across as the Baldwin Wallace leadoff hitter, Mallory Kobak,
singled off Flames starting pitcher, Chrissy Molacek. Kobak then stole second
and third before scoring on a passed ball. Molacek was able to recover to
retire the side of Yellow Jacket hitters in succession.
CSM threatened in the top of the second when Megan O'hara reached on a two base
error by the Baldwin Wallace right fielder with one out. After a Courtney
Barrier strike out, Melissa King singled, advancing O'Hara to third. King then
stole second putting two runners in scoring position with two outs for the
Flames. CSM was unable to capitalize as Jennifer Synowiecki struck out swinging
to end the threat.
The wheels then came off for the Flames as Baldwin Wallace rallied for nine
runs on four hits with CSM committing two errors during the third inning. The
Flames would respond with two runs on three hits in the top of the fourth but
the damage was done.
Molacek was tabbed with the loss in the circle for the Flames, throwing four
innings and giving up ten runs (six earned) on five hits. Mackenzie Rohrbacher
picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets. Rohrbacher went four complete innings
giving up just two runs (both earned) on four hits.
The Flames will return to action, weather permitting, on March 16 with a double
header against Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
March 9, 2010 - Trinity Runs Past Flames in 2010 Opener.
Trinity
International used a three run first inning and timely hitting to keep College
of Saint Mary at bay holding on for a 14-6 victory in the Flames opening game
of the 2010 campaign.
CSM was able to
tie the Trojans with three runs in the bottom of the first, the game remained
scoreless until the two teams each notching a run. In the fifth inning the
Trojans sent nine batters to plate resulting in a 10-4 lead for Trinity. The
Flames would add two runs in the bottom of the sixth before Trinity would put
the game out of reach with four more runs in the seventh.
March 8, 2010 - Rain has forced the
cancellation of the first four games of the College of Saint Mary softball team
at the 2010 Tucson Invitational. The Flames were in the third inning against
Viterbo on Sunday when tournament officials pulled the teams off the field not
to return against the Hawks and forced the cancellation of the evening game
against Black Hills State.
The Rain
has continued today forcing the games against Judson College and Robert Morris.
Tournament officials are hoping to reschedule one or both of the cancelled
games for Wednesday morning.
March 5, 2010 - Due to the extended winter the
Midwest is experiencing in 2010 the College of Saint Mary softball team has
added six games at the 2010 Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Arizona to their
schedule.
The
Flames will kick off the trip by taking on Viterbo from La Crosse, Wisconsin on
Sunday, March 7th at 2:30 before finishing the day by facing Black
Hills State. Sunday will be the first time either team will be taking the field
in 2010. Monday, March 8th brings a pair of Chicago area opponents
for the Flames in the form of Judson College at 12:30 p.m. and Robert Morris
College at 2:30 p.m. The Flames will finish out the Arizona trip on Tuesday
March 9th against Trinity International at 8 a.m. before the finale with
Baldwin Wallace College, an NCAA Div. III institution from Berea, Ohio.
February 1, 2010 - The Flames have been picked to
finish third in the MCAC according to the MCAC Preseason Coaches' Poll
released February 1. CSM was picked third behind defending champion Bellevue
and Peru State. The Flames finished the 2009 season 14-26 overall and 6-6 in
the MCAC. The 2010 MCAC Preseason Poll as follows:
