History

Softball has the longest continuous history of any sport at College of Saint Mary. The sport came to CSM in 1970; however, few details exist from the early years.

The first coach of record was Ronnie Beth Rump in 1975, when CSM hosted the state tournament at Dill Field.  Bob Kennedy took over in 1976 and had a record of 1-11.  In 1977, Judy Lloyd became head coach and recorded a win over Creighton University.

Gail Lehrman took the reins in 1978 and coached until 1983 - recording the Flames' first winning season of 13-9 in 1980. She also led the Flames to a record of 14-9 in 1982 and 13-8 in 1983 - with two regional berths before handing the coaching duties to Deb Denbeck.

Coach Denbeck coached three seasons going 95-45 and taking the team to its first NAIA national tournament in 1986 with a 34-13 record.

Dee and Ron Romine took over from 1987-1994.  With Ron as the head coach in 1990, CSM set a school record of 42 wins and 15 losses. They followed this up with a record of 6 wins and 16 losses, plus a fifth place finish at the national tournament.

Overall, Ron Romine became the coach with the most wins in CSM softball history to date with a record of 147-89 in five years.

Lisa Carlsen took over in 1995 and in just her second year, went 42-9 and won the MCAC regular and post-season titles.  Angie Case, Tonya Wingender and Kerry Keegan became the first softball All-Americans for CSM, and the Flames were 41-10 in 1997 - winning the MCAC postseason tourney once again.  Carlsen was 103-35 in three seasons, and Case became the Flames' first-ever softball first-team All-American.

Shawn Semmler was head coach from 1998 to 2003. Coach Semmler's tenure included five regular and post-season crowns plus a 35-9 record in 2003.

Michaela Jacobson became head coach in 2004, and the Flames zoomed to a 40-21 record and another national tournament appearance.  Alissa Magistretti became the second CSM player ever to be named first-team All-American. Overall, the Flames went 82-68 during Jacobson's tenure as coach.

Dan Bouska took over in 2006 for one season - leading the team to a record of 12-18.

Current head coach Chuck Brewer became the 12th coach in the 38-year history of CSM softball in 2007.
