LIBRARY DIRECTOR
College
of Saint Mary (CSM), a Catholic university for women in Omaha, Nebraska, seeks
a Library Director to be responsible for the overall management of the library
and its resources.
Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1923, the university
provides approximately 1,000 students with the opportunity to develop their
skills and strengths through rigorous study that combines professional and
career preparation with a foundation in the liberal arts. CSM supports 26
undergraduate programs and seven graduate programs, including a doctorate in education
with an emphasis in health professions education.
The
Library Director's responsibilities include hiring and supervising professional
librarians, preparing and managing the budget, overseeing library functions and
services, and coordinating collection development. College of Saint Mary
Library contains approximately 89,400 volumes in a variety of formats. It
offers access to a number of online databases that cover a wide range of
topics. The Library Director reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs,
and serves on numerous campus committees.
The Director also represents the university to professional consortia.
Qualified
applicants must possess an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of
five years library experience demonstrating increasing responsibility. At least
two years directing a college library is preferred. Applicants with experience
as a department supervisor in an academic library will be considered.
Located
on 25 acres of land, the college is near a popular walking trail, parks, and a
newly developing area consisting of a variety of shops, professional buildings,
and apartments. The college is within easy driving distance of the revitalized
downtown area that showcases art, music, theatre, spectacular gardens, and a
world-famous zoo. Omaha is home to the College World Series and hosts the
Olympic Swim Trials.
