Ginny Cook
Director of High School Admissions
High School
Ginny Cook grew up as the youngest of five sisters and brothers in
Burlington, Iowa, along the Mississippi River. She graduated from the
University of Iowa with a bachelors' degree in administrative and therapeutic
recreation. She began her professional career at the University of Iowa's
Psychiatric Hospital, which is where she did her professional
internship.
Ginny's career emphasis changed
once she had two daughters. She then spent the next 14 years raising her
family in what she considers the "most important and challenging job of
her lifetime."
Once her children were older,
Ginny re-entered the workforce with Metropolitan Community College as a
community service coordinator. She then took a job as an admissions counselor
with a local career college before coming to College of Saint Mary.
Reading,
traveling, baking, gardening and sewing are a few activities Ginny enjoys
doing in her recreational time.

Maria Luisa Gaston
Admissions Counselor
Latina High School and Transfer
Admissions
In September 2005, Maria Luisa Gastón joined College of Saint Mary as its first Latina recruiter.
"My mission is to facilitate and defend the dignity of Hispanic families,
especially women," she said. "And what better way to do this than through
access to higher education?" Gastón works with
Latina students and families to help overcome the barriers they face in
pursuing higher education.
Originally

five sisters when she was 15, finished high school in Philadelphia, then
obtained a BS in chemistry and philosophy from Cabrini College, and later an
MA in religious studies from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
In
addition to recruitment and retention of Latina students, Gastón
also directs the annual Latina Summer Academy, a week-long academic camp
geared to 9th and 10th grade Latinas.
Gastón re-energizes her spirit visiting her son and two grandchildren
