The primary responsibility of the AC work study is to provide direct academic support in the form of tutoring. To this end, a qualified candidate must knowledgeable (competent) about course content and keep up to date, possess a great deal of patience, and demonstrate excellent communication skills. Ideal applicants would be sophomores through seniors with a 3.0-4.0 GPA. Applicants must have a “B” or better in the courses they wish to tutor, must submit two faculty recommendations, and must agree to complete ten hours of paid tutor training. Additionally, tutors may be asked to complete administrative tasks such as data entry, mail runs, etc.
*Ability to tutor science and math is particularly helpful.

Computer Labs

Computer Lab Assistants will have the following duties: Assist students with basic computer questions. Keep printers filled with consumables. Troubleshoot basic computer and printer problems. Keep computer labs clean and lock/secure labs at night. Students should be familiar with Microsoft Windows and also have knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Lozier Front Desk work study: Workers are the front line of communication for Residence Hall students and guests. The desk worker answers and transfers the phone, does the mail, completes tasks assigned by the Director of Residence Life and keeps the desk clean and organized. The desk worker helps in emergency situations. Help with check-ins and check-outs of guests and students.
MLL work study: work with the Assistant Director of Residence Life for the Mothers Living and Learning Community. Will be required to organize, clean, and sanitize toys and equipment in the Walsh Playrooms. Also work with ADRL on special projects ranging from programming to hall décor.

Teacher Education

Students will carry out a variety of tasks including class material set up, data entry, laminating, creating materials and other assigned duties. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry. One student is needed to assist with SMART program from 2-6 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Nursing Labs (HCP)

Students will have a schedule each week to work in the nursing lab. Responsibilities in the nursing lab include, setting up supplies for classes, helping students during open lab, maintain a clean lab, and restocking carts. Work study needs to be dependable and on time for their shift. Different assignments will be posted on a weekly basis; the student will need to complete the job independently. Lifting is required.

In warmer months, light outside work to include: lawn care assistance (mowing, trimming, weed eating, trash pickup) and other lawn related tasks as assigned. In cooler months, general inside light office work and light maintenance work.

Students will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the art studios. This includes the organization of art supplies, cleaning of sinks and countertops, and sweeping of art room floors. Work study students will also help in the installation of all art shows in the Hilmer Art Gallery.

Assist with clerical duties related to the Fine Arts Program, the college choirs and the CSM Concert Series. The position includes: filing, stamping and numbering music; general office work; posting flyers; running errands; organizational tasks related to fundraisers, concerts, choir tours, etc. Student workers are also expected to serve as ushers and staff the ticket booth at concerts (approximately 3-4 evenings per semester). A musical background is helpful but not required but not required. Students with specific musical and computer skills will be given additional responsibilities, gaining valuable experience with the operation of a professional concert series.
In addition to the skills listed below, neat handwriting and good spelling are necessary for the music library work, as well as the ability to follow instructions and work independently. Reliability in working scheduled hours is crucial. Workers are primarily needed Monday-Thursday during regular office hours; there is some flexibility in scheduling. Concert ushering work occurs on nights and weekends; the concert schedule is posted on www.csm.edu.

Occupational Therapy

Work studies in the Occupational Therapy Department will do filling, typing, academic plans, bulletin boards, assisting faculty as duties become available as well as assist with faculty assistant, cleaning of lab and supervision of lab during open hours (including some evening hours).

Primary responsibility of work study students is cashiering and swiping campus cards. Will also tidy tables and restock napkins, salt and pepper shakers, etc. Must be available for lunch (11:00 a.m.-12:30p.m.) and dinner shifts (4:30-6:00p.m.).
