Do I have to go home on breaks?
The Residence Halls remain open during Labor Day, Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Spring break, and Easter.

The hall is also open on a limited basis during Christmas. The residence halls are CLOSED over Christmas break 2010, beginning Saturday, December 18, 2010 at noon and re-opening Wed., January 5th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m, for returning students. The board plan ends at noon on the last day of exams and will resume for dinner the day before the first day of classes.

Students may request semester break housing and must contact the Director of Residence Life in order to stay on campus from December 18th to December 22nd at noon. Students will be charged a $20.00 break housing fee. Student may choose to return to the Residence Halls early from January 3rd at 1:00 p.m. to January 5th. Students will be charged a $10.00 break housing fee.

Students who request semester break housing are not guaranteed approval to stay. The Director of Residence Life will take into consideration any disciplinary or community issues by the resident. Rooms for semester break may be available only on designated floors of the residence halls. Break housing will only be available to fall residents who are registered and made semester financial arrangements for spring semester by Wednesday, December 8th, 2010.

Note that Break housing does not include the period from Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 at noon, through Monday, January 3rd, 2011 at 1:00pm as college offices are closed and no residents may stay in the residence halls for security reasons during that time period.

What if I want to change my room or roommate?
Room Freezes are for the first two weeks of the Fall and Spring Semester to accommodate all new residents and assess the occupancy of the hall.

If a resident would like to request a room change during a semester, she must submit a room change form to the Director of Residence Life or the Assistant Resident Director for their hall. The forms will be available after classes begin. The Director of Residence Life and Assistant Resident Director will review this request and meet with all involved parties. If the Director of Residence Life approves the room change request, there will be a $25.00 room change fee required prior to any move during the semester.   The Director of Residence Life will only consider room change requests made AFTER the first 2 weeks of the semester. Depending on other circumstances, the residents request may not be granted, even if the room is available.

A resident wishing to move for the upcoming semester must submit a room change form to the Director of Residence Life or Assistant Resident Director for their building. However, the decision of the new space will be decided after classes begin in the Spring and the move will be after the two week freeze.

Can I contract for a single room?
Single room requests are honored according to a priority system which first gives preference to students by grade classification, (Senior, Junior, Sophomore, First-Year) and then by date of processed and deposit-paid contract receipt. Because of the increase in residence hall capacity 1st year students and 2nd year students live with roommates. The 3rd and 4th year students can contract singles. We also make every effort to provide non-traditional students and transfer students with a single but that is not always possible. Please be prepared to have a roommate if we are not able to accommodate a single for you.

How big will my room be?
Each residence hall room is set up differently. They are all different shapes and sizes and this makes them unique from one another. Although roommates are assigned in July, actual room assignments are not made until right before move-in. We are unable to share with you the exact size of your room until move-in day. If you are concerned about carpet, furniture, etc., we suggest bringing a measuring tape with you to move-in in order to do your own measuring for the purchase of items for the room.

What are quiet hours and courtesy hours?
Quiet hours are from 10:00pm to 10:00am in Lozier Tower. For Walsh Hall quiet hours are from 8:00pm to 8:00am. All residents are expected to be quiet in lobbies, playrooms, hallways, and in rooms during those hours.

During final exam weeks, quiet is expected 24 hours a day. As used here, “QUIET” is no louder than the tone of a conversation between two people; it means that noise from a residence hall room cannot be heard outside of your closed door, or from surrounding rooms, this also includes children being loud outside of their rooms. “QUIET” also applies to noise levels in public hallways and lounges adjacent to resident rooms. Courtesy Hours are 24 hours a day. As used here “courtesy” means no louder than two or three doors down when the door is open and with approval of all neighbors. Students are encouraged to communicate with their neighbors directly if they have concerns.

Children in Walsh Hall/ MLL – Before 8:00 AM, after 8:00 PM and all other designated quiet hours, children must be in their rooms, with their parent, or with an adult in a playroom maintaining an appropriate level of noise. The hallways are not considered a play space and should not be used as one. Children in the hallways must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
