Piano Forte: Musical Oddities in Time Exhibit
Hillmer Art Gallery
In the beginning of the 18th century, one of the most complicated musical instruments was invented, the pianoforte. It was preceded by many now-extinct instruments and underwent myriad technological and engineering advancements before becoming the modern-day piano. Come and take in the history, artistry and science behind piano and piano-like instruments dating back as far as 1575. Steve Misener, collector, researcher and piano technician, will be on hand for much of the exhibit to explain the intricacies of each instrument. From Bach to Jenny Lind, these pianos have some fascinating connections to be uncovered. Schools and community groups are encouraged to attend. Exhibit runs through December 20.
