CSM receives favorable
ratings in national student survey
A
national survey released today shows that a variety of colleges and
universities have shown steady improvement in the quality of undergraduate
education. The 2009 report from the National Survey of Student Engagement
(NSSE), Assessment for Improvement:
Tracking Student Engagement Over Time, details results from a 2009 survey
of over 360,000 first-year and senior students attending 617 U.S. colleges and
universities.
In the survey, College of Saint Mary (CSM) received many favorable scores -
some well above other participating schools. In the category of "Active and Collaborative
Learning," which details how engaged students are in their learning, CSM seniors
scored a 62 - a score that places CSM in the top 10% of all 617 schools for
this category.
In the category of "Supportive Campus Environment," 87 percent of first-year
and 76 percent of seniors feel that CSM has a substantial commitment to their
academic success, and 90 percent of first-year students rated the quality of
their academic advising as excellent.
"We are very pleased that both our first-year and senior students are
recognizing the unique experience College of Saint Mary offers women," said Dr.
Maryanne Stevens, RSM, president of College of Saint Mary. "These results
showcase the amazing work of our faculty and staff and illustrate our
commitment to providing students with the best educational environment possible."
The 2009 NSSE report is sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the
Advancement of Teaching, and the complete report can be downloaded from the
NSSE Website at www.nsse.iub.edu.
