College of Saint Mary goes "green" in campus dining hall
In an effort to encourage students,
faculty and staff to conserve resources, College of Saint Mary and its food
service vendor, Treat America, have gone "styrofoam free" in the campus dining
hall. Diners will no longer be able to get food to go in styrofoam containers,
but instead will need to purchase a "green" reusable container for to-go meals
in the CSM Campus Store. To preserve cleanliness after their initial use of the
container, diners will bring in their rinsed container and exchange it for one
that has been cleaned and sanitized by Treat America to use for their to-go
meal. Conserving resources is also being encouraged in the campus coffee shop,
Christina's Place, with customers receiving discounts for using their own
mug.
Involvement Fair this Wednesday, Sept. 2, at CSM
At CSM, students are encouraged to be
involved in one or more of the many student organizations and clubs on campus.
On Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 11:30 AM - 1 PM, more than a dozen of these groups
will be showcased during the 2009 Involvement Fair. This event on the CSM Plaza
will give students the chance to learn more about all of these groups and their
activities on campus and in the community. Some of the student groups featured
will include The Green Team, Student Senate, SEAN (Student Education
Association of Nebraska), SNA (Student Nurses Association), MAS (Multicultural
Association of Students), DUO (Do Unto Others) and many more.
CSM now part of Yellow Ribbon Program for veterans
College of Saint Mary is now
participating in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program through the
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (V.A.). The Yellow Ribbon Program allows
institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the
V.A. to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state tuition
rate. Through this program, the institutions can contribute up to 50% of those
expenses with the V.A. matching that amount. Through the program, CSM offers
individuals who qualify $8,000/year for undergraduate study; $2,000/year for
graduate classes; and $1,000/year for doctoral study. Undergraduate programs at
College of Saint Mary are open to women only and all graduate and doctorate
programs are open to both men and women.
