Inaugural event for Curtiss Lecture Series, this
Wednesday, Sept. 16
Thanks to the
generosity of Archbishop Emeritus, Elden Francis
Curtiss, College of Saint Mary has created a lecture series devoted to Catholic
thought and its influence upon society. The inaugural event in this series will
take place this Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gross Conference
Center on the CSM campus. Guest speaker will be Sr. Deirdre Mullan,
RSM, a Sister of Mercy from Northern Ireland who currently serves on the
Executive Committee of the United Nations. Her presentation is titled, "The
Call to be a Global Citizen: The U.N. and Catholic Social Teaching as Agents of
Change." The event is open and free to
the public.
Irish Concert takes the stage this
Friday, Sept. 18, on the Plaza
The
traditional sounds of Ireland will be featured when The New Barleycorn takes the stage for the Irish Heritage Concert
Series CSM on Friday, September 18, at 7:30 PM. Singing and playing both traditional
Celtic songs and contemporary folk music, The
New Barleycorn is known for the vitality and humor they feature in their
shows. This evening of festive music will be held on The Plaza of the CSM
campus at 7000 Mercy Road. Attendees are
encouraged to dress appropriately for this outdoor performance. Tickets are $20 per person and refreshments
will be available at the concert.
CSM celebrates Homecoming this
Saturday, Sept. 19
In
honor of Heritage Week at CSM, a variety of "homecoming" activities will be
held on campus this Saturday, Sept. 19. Events include: The current CSM Flames
softball team challenges a team of alums to a game at Heritage Park at 11 a.m.;
a tailgate lunch in the Lied Fitness Center parking lot at noon; Powder Puff
football takes the field at 1 p.m. with first-year students challenging the
sophomores and juniors competing against the seniors; and the CSM Flames
volleyball team takes on Midland Lutheran at 2 p.m. in the Lied Fitness Center
gym.
