CSM celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
this Weds., Sept. 30
On Wednesday,
Sept. 30, the student group MAS (Multi-cultural Student Association) at CSM is
sponsoring an all-day celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The Mexican dance group, Xiotal, will perform
from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the dining hall and there will be Mexican-themed
food and displays. Then at 9 p.m. there will be salsa dance lessons in the
dining hall. Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15.
Average age of those attending college
in the U.S. climbs to 25
A recent story on NBC's Today
Show stated that the average age of undergraduate college students has now
risen to 25. At College of Saint Mary,
this trend holds true with the average age of students on campus also being 25.
The older-student-age trend is being linked to a number of factors including
recent changes in the economy and the business community, along with
individuals heading back to school to finish their bachelor's degree or get a
degree in another area for greater professional opportunities. Members of the
CSM Enrollment Office are available to comment on this topic and trends they
have seen at CSM.
The
Green Team at CSM sponsors electronics recycling event
The Green Team
at College of Saint Mary - a group of students,
faculty and staff that share the same vision of addressing environmental issues
within our community by raising awareness of the issue and initiating a
movement towards resolving the problem - is sponsoring an Electronics Recycling Event from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., on Tuesday,
October 6. The group will be collecting old cell phones & chargers, mp3
players, batteries, and computers 2001 & newer on campus in the Math &
Science Bldg. parking lot and on the CSM Plaza next to Mercy Hall. However,
they will not collect old televisions or computer monitors. Following
the collection, the group will transport the items to local electronics
recycling facilities/companies.
