Since we all carry small, rectangular entertainment machines in our pockets, purses, and backpacks, we rarely find ourselves in the pits of true boredom anymore—there is always something to do. While this may seem great at first glance, I’ll argue that our lack of boredom actually makes us worse off. I'll suggest that in order to live a good and ethical life we need to embrace and cultivate boredom in the right ways, at the right times, and for the right reasons to be better able to pursue the true goods of life—love, friendship, learning, and beauty.
Free and open to the public. Dessert reception to follow.
