Accreditation

The occupational therapy program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission as well as the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220, phone (301) 652-AOTA (www.aota.org and www.acoteonline.org).

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).  After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR).  Most states require licensure in order to practice.  State licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.   A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination, attain state licensure, or complete fieldwork.

The total number of graduates who passed the certification exam as first time new graduate test takers in 2007-2009 was 33 out of 38, which is a 86.8% pass rate.  During that 3 year time period, the program had 38 graduates.

The total pass rate for graduates, including first time and repeat test takers in 2007-2009 was 35 out of 38 test takers, which is 92%.  During that 3 year time period, the program had 38 graduates.  Three students from the class of 2009 have not retaken the exam yet.
