College of Saint Mary (CSM) is proud to announce that Hayley Matthews of Glenwood, Iowa, has been selected as a Marie Curie Scholar starting in fall 2015. A surprise check presentation of the $80,000 scholarship honored Hayley on Thursday, March 19, at Glenwood Community High School. Hayley is the daughter of Dan and Andrea Matthews. She plans to major in biology at College of Saint Mary.

Hayley’s awards and honors while attending Glenwood Community High School include:

  • Honor Roll (3.5 or better) — 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
  • Black and Gold Honor Roll (4.0 or better) — 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
  • National Honor Society — 2014 and 2015

  • Selected to go to Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State @ Iowa State — 2014

College of Saint Mary’s prestigious Marie Curie Scholars Program, funded in part by the National Science Foundation, provides significant financial support and resources for academically talented young women who study science or math. Marie Curie Scholars may receive up to $20,000 annually for four years in gift aid — and participants also have opportunities to work as science or math tutors, participate in National Institute of Health and NASA research fellowships, attend seminars and participate in various science clubs.
