Calling Area Educators: sign up now for CSM’s Elementary Teacher Workshops

Wednesday, September 25, 2019

OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) is seeking elementary teachers and educators throughout the region to participate in its Science Enrichment Workshops this year. The program, titled “Math & Magic with Chemistry” is open to both male and female educators – at any stage in their career – who are looking to further their skills and knowledge in science instruction in the classroom.

“Educators who participate in the workshops are building up their knowledge base in STEM subjects, increasing their self-confidence, and developing their inquiry-based teaching skills,” says Dr. Amanda Roe, assistant professor of biology at College of Saint Mary. “They’ll also form a new network of teachers for support and program connections.”

The program includes six once-a-month, Saturday workshops, where the teachers work directly with doctoral-level science and education faculty. Each workshop focuses on increasing the educators’ background knowledge in STEM subjects and includes hands-on scientific activities that the teachers can take back to their classrooms.

Upon program completion, participants will receive a $250 stipend for classroom supplies. They also earn two graduate-level education credits.

The only cost for the workshop is a $60 fee to hold your seat. Lunch will be provided each day. Registration is limited to 16 participants, so educators are encouraged to register as soon as possible. The application deadline is September 27 or until seats are full.

The CSM Elementary Teacher Workshops are made possible by generous gifts from the Claire M. Hubbard Foundation and NASA Nebraska Space Grant. K-5 elementary educators interested in participating in the fall 2019 workshops should contact Dr. Amanda Roe at aroe [at] csm.edu or visit www.CSM.edu/ScienceWorkshop.
