Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony

College of Saint Mary to Celebrate First Annual Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony

Thursday, July 20, 2017

OMAHA, NEB. –  College of Saint Mary will host its First Annual Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, July 22. The inaugural event will celebrate students who have earned entry into clinical patient care.

“This event marks a great accomplishment and highlights the hard work, acute focus, and dedication put in by each student,” said College of Saint Mary President Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM.  “It’s exciting to see individuals take the knowledge fostered within the CSM campus and carry it out into our broader community, and the world through servant leadership.”

At the event, students will be addressed by keynote speaker Starlette Jackson Yehinou Dossou, Ph.D., PA-C.  An accomplished figure in both academic arenas and medical practice, Dossou will speak to a historic group at College of Saint Mary. Individuals will be the first to receive the distinguished White Coat honor since CSM’s Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies program was launched in 2016. Some members of the group are also part of CSM’s accelerated, true 3+2 PA program, which allows students to take pre-PA classes as undergraduates, charting an opportunity to become a practicing physician assistant in just five years.

As is the longstanding tradition in medical fields, College of Saint Mary’s Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony signifies the transition from in-class development to medical practice. Upon receiving their white coats, students will complete their final 12 months of education with hands-on practice in varied clinical rotations.  Created during a rising demand for PA careers, CSM’s Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies program is one of CSM’s newest academic additions and is one of more than 35 graduate and undergraduate programs offered at CSM. Prior to receiving their white coats and beginning clinical rotations, students learn and study within CSM’s Omaha campus, located in the heart of Aksarben Village.

College of Saint Mary’s First Annual Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony will be held in CSM’s Gross Auditorium and will begin at 2 p.m.
