Students from College of Saint Mary volunteer during Spirit of Service

College of Saint Mary’s Spirit of Service set for April 16

OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary (CSM) students, faculty, staff and alumni will volunteer at locations around Omaha during the annual Spirit of Service on April 16.

“At College of Saint Mary, servant leadership and social responsibility are part of the core values that guide us,” said Mark Gudgel, associate professor of education, director of the sustainability minor and Spirit of Service committee member. “Spirit of Service allows us to live out our mission by serving the campus and Omaha communities.”

A kickoff event will begin at 8 a.m. in the Lied Fitness Center Gymnasium. Participants will volunteer on campus or in the community.

Volunteer locations include Access Period, Catholic Charities Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program, Girls Inc., Habitat for Humanity, the Intercultural Senior Center, MOMentum, the Ronald McDonald House, Siena Francis House, Together and the Women's Center for Advancement.

Students, staff, faculty and alumni can sign up to volunteer in the Omaha community on Share Omaha.

Volunteer opportunities on campus include assisting Sisters of Mercy with household tasks and campus clean up. Sign up for on campus volunteering.

Now in its 29th year, Spirit of Service helps create a connection between the campus community and the Omaha community. The event also serves as a culmination of a semester of volunteering. Nearly 200 students, faculty and staff have volunteered in the community throughout the spring semester.
