Hundreds of girls empowered through triathlon with free club

Thursday, August 1, 2019

OMAHA, Neb. – After working hard all summer, hundreds of girls in the Ironhawk Juniors Tri Club will participate in their own triathlon this Sunday, Aug. 4th. College of Saint Mary will proudly play host to the 2nd Annual Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon, which will see over 265 girls age 8-14 doing something most adults have never done – swim, bike and run in a triathlon race.

For many of these girls, they didn’t know how to swim or how to ride a bike. The mother of one of our Juniors sent us this message:

“The girl who wouldn’t ride her bike just a month ago is now getting up every morning and riding 3 miles AND jogging 3/4 mile. The girl who has dealt with anxiety is now able to cope better and is feeling more confident in herself. And most importantly, she is proud of her accomplishments so far. Ironhawk Juniors has made Hailey realize that she can push herself and achieve great things.”

Hailey’s inspiring story is just one of many. To meet these courageous girls and share their stories, please join us for this visual, inspiring and positive event at College of Saint Mary. The girls will cheer each other on, lift each other up and show the skills they’ve learned all summer to get to the finish line.

Through an 8-week training program on the campus of CSM, girls, ages, 8-14, learn the three disciplines of triathlon: swimming, biking and running. Girls learn to honor their self and others, the importance of teamwork and to be kind. To assure there are no barriers to participation, all equipment required to complete a triathlon are provided free to the athletes. No experience is required.
