Alumnae Spotlight

Dr. Maribel Chavez Caudillo ‘03

College of Saint Mary provided the influence Dr. Maribel Chavez Caudillo ’03 needed in her life.

“It was exactly the place I needed without even realizing it,” she said. “While I excelled in academics, my self-esteem and confidence were lacking. CSM helped develop my confidence in myself and finally come to the realization that my adversities could be conquered to help me become the person I am today.”

The University also helped develop Maribel as a leader through the CSM community.

“The faculty, staff and students are strong examples themselves of support, service, love, and gratitude,” she said. “CSM is the kind of environment that allows students to focus on the pursuit of leadership, service and excellence. These principles are all modeled by everyone at the school.”

Maribel graduated from CSM with a degree in nursing in 2003. She worked as a nurse for three years in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital in Omaha.

After working as a nurse, Maribel returned to school and graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry. She worked in community health and private practices before opening her own dental practice eight years ago. She focuses a lot of her attention on minority, Spanish-speaking patients and the elderly.

“I have been a Spanish interpreter since I was 14 years old, mostly in healthcare settings. I understand the vulnerabilities of minorities who do not speak English,” Maribel said. “I have created a practice that fosters quality care and preventive care to this Latino community. I also provide free dental care to patients who cannot afford it.”

About a year ago, Maribel and her husband, Steven, expanded their practice to a larger location and acquired another dental office.

While she is busy with her dental practice, Maribel has still found time to give back to the community. She has participated in Give Kids a Smile and Mission of Mercy programs offering free dental care. She has also participated in the Institute for Latin America Concern Mission to the Dominican Republic.

Maribel was awarded the Alumnae Achievement Award during Homecoming on Sept. 23.
