Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies

The bachelor of general studies is specifically designed for students who have an associate's degree or have accumulated 64 semester hours. Your bachelor’s degree in general studies provides a solid foundation to work in any number of fields. The curriculum focuses on the development of oral and written communication skills and analytical and ethical thinking combined with a liberal arts component to balance the technical knowledge previously acquired. You can add an area of focus to your study by choosing from all of the other programs of study offered by College of Saint Mary.

Required Courses for Your Major

Component I

Associate’s Degree/Transfer Credits with 64 credit hours completed. (General Education, 40 credit hours: English Composition; Communications 101 or 212; English Literature; Fine Arts; History/Political Science; Social Science; Science; Moral Reasoning; Philosophy; Theology; Global and Cultural Diversity and Humanities Seminar.)

Component II

24 credit hours  — either a mix of classes or in one of the eight following areas of focus — art, history, music, philosophy, communication, business analytics and strategic communication, English or social science.

Minor and electives 

18 credit hours in a minor area of your choice and 33 credit hours in electives or a double major.

Requirements for Graduation from College of Saint Mary

To graduate with a bachelor’s degree in general studies, you must complete 128 credit hours, 36 of which much be completed at College of Saint Mary.

  • Transcripts from any post high school institutions for transfer students. Students who have earned 12 or more credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0 from other institutions qualify as transfer students.

Test-Optional Admissions

CSM accepts undergraduate students with or without test scores (ACT/SAT). Below are a few key details to consider:

  • Choosing not to submit test scores will not result in any penalties during the admission or merit scholarship evaluation process.
  • If you decide to submit scores after being admitted, we will assess your eligibility for a potential increase in merit scholarship (scores must be submitted by March 31). No merit scholarship will be revoked due to test scores submitted after admission.
